Piazza Venezia is a majestic square located at the foot of the Capitoline Hill, where ancient and modern Rome converge in a captivating blend of past and present. The square takes its name from the “Palazzo Venezia” which was initially leisure residence of Pope Julius II who watched the “Barberi” horse race in Via del Corso up to the square, from the balcony.
Dominating the skyline of Piazza Venezia is the imposing Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, also known as the Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland). This grandiose monument, built in honor of Italy's first king, is a symbol of Italian unity and independence. Adorned with majestic columns, equestrian statues, and allegorical figures representing the virtues of the
nation.
